Independent from

Is it natural in English to say "independent from" like this?
How would you phrase if not?

Although we understand why your wouldn't want to make the trip, we can't cancel your reservation without a fee because the terrorist attacks that took place here are independent from our hotel.

Thanks

Hello

Yes I am trying to say that the attacks have nothing to do with the hotel or have no connection with the hotel so although I understand why the person might be scared to come to the city, our hotel can't waive the cancellation fee as the attacks are separate from the hotel.
Could you tell me how to write this in an email?

thank you

We cannot waive the cancellation fee because the attacks have no connection to our hotel.
