Independent clause
For a grammar test at school, students were given the following sentence:
Underline the part indicated in brackets.
Although the North and South poles are difficult regions to live in, many animals have found ways of adapting to the extreme conditions.( independent clause)
A student answered as follows:
Although the North and South poles are difficult regions to live in, many animals have found ways of adapting to the extreme conditions.
The answer sheet says that only " many animals found ways of adapting to the extreme conditions" should be underlined. That doesn't seem correct to me.
