Independance Day

Please correct the following sentences. Thanks.

It was the 4th of July, 2006; was celebrating her independence day. I saw a large congregation of dressed up white people either standing or sitting on the meadows that remained clustered around a mall. Children were screaming with joy, and some of them hitch-hiking their cycles around the mall. A happy and festive mood hung in the air. All necks were turned to the sky, and eyes riveted on it.
