Indentifying verbal and appositive phrases.



Will someone please check my homework. If I am doing it wrong will you please correct me and tell me what I am doing wrong before my quiz tomorrow.

Identifying Verbal and Appositive Phrases

Underline the verbal and appositive phrases in the following paragraph. Then above each phrase write part phr for participial phrase, ger phr for gerund phrase, inf phr for infinitive phrase or app phr for appositive phrase


PART PHR. (11) Summoning our courage, we walked into the icy water.



INF PHR. (12) We wore thick wet suits to protect ourselves from the cold.



PART PHR. (13) After reviewing the basic hand signals, my partner and I checked our compasses and our air supplies.

GER PHR. (14) Then, swimming along the bottom, we admired the underwater life.

INF PHR. (15) We were careful not to brush against the urchins and seaweed with out fins.

APP PHR. (16) Urchins, creatures with round backs and tiny spines, covered the sea floor.

GER PHR. (17) A bright orange fish, hiding from us, lay in a clump of seaweed.

INF PHR. (18) We moved closer to take a better look.

APP PHR. (19) The fish, a species unfamiliar to us, swam away quickly.

INF PHR. (20) After fifteen minutes, we began to swim back to the shore.
