Indefinite articles in lists

Hello,

Should indefinite article be used in lists?

"...includes the following: a pen, a piece of paper, an orange."

Yes, that is OK - and it is also OK to leave out the articles..

In my bag I have the following: a pen, a piece of paper, an orange

On his desk he had the following: pen, paper and an orange

The article is better with "orange" because it can also be an adjective, so you may leave your reader thinking "an orange what?". However - this works -
