Indefinite article before the name of a dish

Hi. I heard that biryanis (do I need to italicize the name of this dish?) is a South Asian rice dish. Can we say, "I will have a biryanis, please." I think we can say (if it was good), "The biryanis I had was good." Sometimes, when I go to a exotic restaurant that serves exotic food, I see names that I am not sure how I should use them in sentences, especially in terms of the need to put articles in front of the names.

After reading the Answers.com entry I think I would be inclined to say, "I'll have the biryani." I wouldn't use the plural unless I wanted two orders, "I'll have two biryanis to go, please." And of course, "The biryani was good."
