Indeed / In fact.

Hi people!

Are there any contexts where "Indeed" and "In fact" are synonyms?

E.g,

1. "I am happy, indeed proud, to be associated with this project."


"I am happy, in fact proud, to be associated with this project."

2. "Is this your dog?" "It is indeed."/"Indeed it is."

"Is this your dog?" "It is in fact."/"In fact it is."

3. Yes, I did indeed say that.

Yes, I did in fact say that.

4. Indeed, it could be the worst environmental disaster in Western Europe this century.

In fact, it could be the worst environmental disaster in Western Europe this century.

5. Evidence suggests that errors may indeed be occurring.


Evidence suggests that errors may in fact be occurring.

I think I can hear myself saying both versions in nos. 1-4, but I'd probably say only 'indeed' in no. because of the word 'evidence'.

I think I can hear myself saying both versions in nos. 1-4, but I'd probably say only 'indeed' in no. 5...because of the word 'evidence'. Sometimes, 'indeed' will be said as, "as a matter of fact".
