INCULCATED

I'm an esl student and reading a text I found this passage: " Like most young singers, I was inculcated into the cult of hydration by my first voice teacher...", is it right saying that someone was inculcated into something instead of something being inculcated into someone? I know that it's in the passive voice, even so, I still think it's strange. Is that usage of the verb "inculcate" right?
