Increasingly

Pobedonostsev, the reactionary overprocurator of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, who had
the ear of the tsar, became increasingly convinced that the organization had no place in a well-ordered state.

Should it not be " was becoing increasingly convinced" cause increasingly means more and more and implies a process? Thanks
