Air pollution, which is contributed by an increasing amount of traffic flow, is of concern to numerous nations, including the developed ones. As a result, it is supposed that a rise in gasoline price is pivotal to curb this problem. From my point of view, I am not in to this approach since there are several demerits of it.
First and foremost, increasing fossil fuel price has an adverse effect on heavy industry and services. Petrol plays an indispensable role in operating metal refinement industry, electricity manufacturing and also chemical process industry. If petrol value goes up, these industries are coerced to spend more money on importing fossil fuel whist an increase of products' prices is out of question. Subsequently, companies are on the verge of closing down owing to shortage of budget and lost profits. Besides, rideshare services are also likely to be hit. Since Uber, Ziro, and other ride-hailing companies encourage commuters to prior public transportation, it is not justice if they are taxed higher on petrol use.
Another down point of high petrol price is that it cannot comprehensively cope with heavy traffic flow. Indeed, private vehicle is in the favor of citizens in developing countries for its convenience, privacy and also occupational purposes. In addition, out-of-date public transport system is also the factor leading to the private cars preference. Therefore, I am convinced that upgrading public transportation and educating citizens about the detrimental impacts of cars on the environment are more practical than impose higher tax on petrol. Moreover, alternative energy use should phase in gradually to cut down the amount of fossil fuel.
In brief, I do not support increasing the price of petrol because it will pose a threat to many industries that benefits human and it cannot solve the environmental issue as well as heavy traffic. Instead, I suggest an innovation in public transport, awareness raise and a shift to environmentally friendly fuel use are the optimal measures.
