The pain has multiplied/increased by 10/has increased tenfold.
His weight has multiplied by 10. (is this natural, exaggerating of course)

Increased by X means X is added (once). Eleven increased by four equals fifteen.

Increased X-fold means "multiplied by X." Eleven increased three-fold equals thirty-three.

There's nothing wrong with saying, "The pain is multiplied by ten."

It's the word "tenfold" that indicates multiplication, not the word "increase."
"Increase by" indicates addition.
