Grammar

Increase/count by fives or five

Suppose that we are given the pattern below.

(ex) 2,4,6,8,10,12,...

(1a) The pattern increases by two.

(2a) Can you count by twos?

My non-native English speaking friends think I am wrong. Their changes are given below.

(1b) The pattern increases by twos,

(2b) Can you count by two?

Who is correct? Thank you very much for your help.

I wouldn't say that the pattern increases by two(s). I think I would say (using sentences as near to possible as yours): The numbers increase in twos. Can you count in twos?
