Increase the cost of fuel to solve environmental problems. Your opinion?

These days, the world is facing many environmental problems owing to human activities. Some people believe that in order to tackle these issues, government should raise the price of petrol for vehicles including cars. While I agree that this would be an effective solution, I contend that there are still other methods that have a greater impact.

On the one hand, increasing the price of gas would results in a cut down on emissions contaminated by transportations and impeding the process of global warming. In fact, private cars emit a huge amount of exhaust fumes into the atmosphere, which causes air pollution and the greenhouse effect. However, by raising the tax on fuel, fewer people will be able to afford it. This might lead to a decreasing in the number of people using cars. Furthermore, government could spend the gap money on upgrading and expanding the public transport provisions. This would results in more and more bus and train services will be made available to residents, which means fewer and fewer people using cars.

Nevertheless, I believe that investing in green technology could address environmental issues in the long term. Indeed, vehicles using renewable energy are becoming increasingly more popular. Therefore, if companies could make it more affordable and available for residents, more and more people will shift toward using eco-friendly cars, since those cars have more special features than normal cars, such as autopilot. In other words, when everybody own for themselves an electronic car, we can mostly eradicate the effects of air pollutants from transportations on our environments.

In conclusion, although an increase in gas prices would address some environmental issues including global warming and air pollution, in the longer term, investing in eco-friendly technology has a bigger effect.
