Incorrect use of "And"

One particular issue has always bothered me, but I can't say with 100% confidence that a grammar rule is being broken. Take these sentences as examples: I will try and work. I'm going to try and change. I will try and speak to her.

The use of "and" doesn't seem right. Why do people do this? Isn't it better (and more accurate) to say " I will try TO speak to her."

Please help me with this. I see it so often, but I hesitate to question it. Give me arsenal!!
