"This is the bin to put the rubbish in." (It needed a period at the end.)

Some people may object to ending a sentence with a preposition, but everyone does it!

"Our first priority is to find the thief. " (It needed a period at the end.)

I don't consider "first priority" as redundant.

Hi,

Both sentences are fine.

'First' is OK. It adds emphasis.

Clive.

my mistake, I forgot to add the periods. According to my text, there is something in each sentence that conflicts with correct written English. Any thoughts?

Hi,

My thought is that your text is wrong. Was it written by a native speaker?

Is there some wider context that makes these sentences inappropriate in some way?

The questions are being asked by an English teacher but she is not a native English speaker. Maybe that is my problem. Thank you!

Hi,
Why is the text wrong ?
eg.1 This is the bin to put the rubbish in. =>Rubbish bin.
eg.2 Our first priority is to find the thief.=>Our first priority is to arrest the thief .
I am not sure too, and is it incorrect to put "the" in front of rubbish in eg.1 ?
Is that the ways a native speaker will say? Can you pleas

Sorry, outrageous, but your corrections do not seem correct. The originals are quite natural; they need no repair:

This is the bin to put the rubbish in.
Our first priority is to find the thief.

Thank you.
I see . So native speaker also speak like this .
I just wonder what does Clive's (My thought is that your text is wrong) mean ?
But why do we need to specify the rubbish by putting the ?
In general speaking ,I will say : This is the bin to put rubbish in .
But not : This is the bin to put the rubbish in .
Any difference between them ?
Thank you.

Clive is talking about the textbook or whatever source the supposedly incorrect sentences came from.

'The' refers to some specific rubbish. We cannot say that it is wrong in this isolated sentence, any more than we can attack 'the' before 'bin'.

So the text here refers what the English teacher said . Thanks .
