Incorrect or unnecessary article uses?

Hi. I tend to put the definite article "the" in the following places for the types of the sentences below, where they are meant generally. Is it wrong/incorrect to use to put the definite articles in the following types of sentences (if the types are clear to you) to mean generally?

1. Have you ever dropped a pebble into (the?) water and seen what happens?

2. Can you see great skyscrappers from (the?) space if you are up there?

Top answer

'The' is possible in #1, though it is not usual; 'the' cannot be used in #2. 'Skyscraper' is spelt thus.

Hi. Thank you very much. Would you say the same for this variation (as I think it is) of no. 1 as you did for no. 1?

Variation of no. 1 sentence:

Have you ever dropped a pebble into (the?) water? The ripples rise up at the middle and spread in different ways.
