Incorporating a dream into text

I am writing a story that starts with two people talking. There is dialogue between them, and after several paragraphs the first person tells the second person of the dream. The telling of the dream consumes two or three pages, with much dialogue between numerous characters. The story then reverts back to the present tense and continued dialogue between the two original people.

Question: How do I show the difference in characters and time to eleminate confussion? (i.e. italics, page break, etc.)
