'in'circuit/'out'circuit

Hi,
Can you please explain the meaning of these expressions in the context:

Moving either selector rearward to the soft detent closes the 'out' (auto in) circuit, which energizes the airbrake selector valve solenoid. The ground path for the solenoid is routed through the airbrake 'in' circuit and the PCL position microswitch S60.
