"Incidences" redux

Although we have discussed the use of "incidences" as if it were the plural of "incident," discussion isn't enough.
Having heard "incidences" used incorrectly by TV/Cable/Radio newscasters all too often, I have decided that a remedial class in English usage should be given to nay, should be forced upon all who wish to speak on any TV/Cable/Radio news program. Failure to take the class would be automatic grounds for hanging.
(Am I being too picky?)

Or possibly an attempted plural of 'instance', which would often be the most appropriate
