In/at the end

Please explain and give me examples about the diffirent between in the end and at the end.

At the end (of) means literally at the end, whereas in the end/at last means eventually or after some time. - There may be an index at the end of this book - I didn't want to go, but in the end I gave in and I promised to go with them
