inadequate?

"He pronounced(to officially state that sth is true) the previous death sentence inadequate."

Is it correct to use the word 'inadequate' here to mean that giving him the death penalty is not right?

I'm not even sure using the verb 'pronounce' is appropriate.

Oh, sorry! I didn't know I got responses there.
I've just joined that forum as well and it says I have to wait til the moderater allows me to write the post so I waited and checked the notification the next day but there's nothing so I thought my post got rejected for some reason.
