In years/for years

if I wanna write a sentence which give its meaning the same as "not until year 2010 had I met him".

What choose I write?

1) I haven't met him in years.
2) I haven't met him for years.

In my opinion, 1) sound more natural to me.
I just want to know whether I have to use "in" or "for" in this case.
