I think it is neither. I think it ought to be " we all know him well and he is the most careful and considerate man but he is a volunteer."
Or "we all know him well,as the most careful and considerate man, but he is a volunteer."
But, of course, the experts will be able to help you better.

thank you so much!

I think the "but" here makes no sense, it should replaced by "and".

This is a strange sentence for a non-native speaker.

According to me .......''which'' is right .......we know him for what ? we know him for a case ......in which ......he is most careful and considerate man ........but he is a volunteer........it means he dont take money .......he do it freely .....meaning of ''but'' means it is up to him to take case or not .......or he is not ''binding'' for the case ......he has free will to take it or not ...

yes, I am now preparing for an english exam.

Accoring to your explanation, I think "but" really make sense here.

He has free will whether to help other people or not.

You've helped me a lot!

Pls forgive my poor english!

Yes Kathy pu, I think "and" will make better sense that "but". However, it totally depends on the context in which it is spoken.

Hi,
kathy puWe all know him well, in (which/whose) case he is a most careful and considerate man but he is a vounteer.
In which case does not belong in this sentence at all. Note that your sentence is very poorly organized.

Overall, it doesn't make much sense as it stands. Here is a possible paraphrase:

We all know him well. He is a volu
