In what tense this verb?

Hi, The working verb seems as part of past progressive verb, should I understand this verb as something that happening now? He's working ... where the mormons settled

"Walter Scott, a Reformed Baptist preacher working in northeast Ohio where the Mormons settled."

Your example isn't a sentence as it lacks a main clause. Working is a present participle used to introduce a relative clause equivalent: Walter Scott, a Reformist Bapti s t preacher [who/that is ] working in northeast Ohio , where the Mormons settled. CB
