Which is correct...a or b?.. Why? what does in verbing express....?

He is uninterested in making new friends. It's the -ing form because that's the form used after "interested" or "uninterested". The choice between a to -form and an -ing -form doesn't have a lot to do with any inherent meaning in these forms.

  • He is uninterested in making new friends.
  • It's the -ing form because that's the form used after "interested" or "uninterested".
  • The choice between a to -form and an -ing -form doesn't have a lot to do with any inherent meaning in these forms.
  • It's the words that precede that 'govern' one form or the other, and these simply have to be learned, just as you learn vocabulary.
  • Search the internet for 'catenative verbs' and you will see that there is a lot of material you can read about it.
