"in vacation""during vacation"

Hello, everyone!

I'm Kumiko, teaching English in junior high school in Osaka.

I have a question.

When you say "Did you go anywhere during the vacation?",

can you use "in the vacation" "in vacation" "during vacation" instead?

Top answer

You have two problems, one you are confronting and one you are not. During the vacation = a specified vacation During vacation = an unspecified vacation You can replace 'during' with ' on ' but not 'in'.

Thank you, Mister Micawber!

This forum is great!

I'm teaching 1st graders. Yes, it's their first year.

Prepositions and articles are always problems both for them and me.

Thanks for your help and please help me again!
