In USA a president cannot contest the presidential election for the third term

Hi

In many countries a political person could only be elected to the office twice. For example, in USA a president cannot contest the presidential election for the third term. What term is used for this rule? Could you please tell me? Thanks.

Your use here of "contest" is not correct -- you mean "a person cannot run for the office of president more than twice." To "contest an election" means to challenge the results, to claim that the election was conducted improperly.

Hi Khoff,

This use of 'contest' seems fine to me, here in Canada. Google seems to show it is used in Britain, too.

And my dictionary offers contend or compete for a parliamentary seat.

This rule is called the Twenty-second Amendment.

Sorry -- I didn't realize that was a British/American difference!
