In recent years, it is true that having practical experience draws more recruiters’ attention compared to having good theoretical knowledge. Although the former is essential, it cannot completely substitute for a formal theoretical qualification in the long run.

It is clear that theoretical knowledge still holds an important role in many fields of career. First, in order to formulate and evolve practical skills, workers need to grasp fundamental knowledge based on research and science. For example, if architectures want to design and build a house, they need to adopt mathematical and physical knowledge, suggesting a close relationship between theoretical foundation and practical abilities. In addition, academic knowledge is a catalyst to come up with innovative ideas in practice. In fact, by accumulating a wide specialized knowledge, workers can discover a myriad of possibilities to deal with their tasks flexibly.

It cannot deny that formal qualifications are vital in the job market. Since looking at applicants’ certificates is a quick and easy way to assess their capabilities whether suit the job or not, many employers still do care about formal qualifications. This means documents proving applicants’ abilities such as graduation certificates, are still necessary as applying for the jobs. Apart from that, many universities and colleagues have been keeping them updated in terms of the training curriculum. In fact, there is more practical knowledge taught in academic environments, which equips comprehensively graduates in both theoretical knowledge and practical one.

In conclusion, it is certainly true that hands-on skills are an important factor in careers, but this is by no mean the key comprehensive evaluation for everybody in seeking a prospective job.
