Convos, in the dead of night. Voices hushed, eyes burning bright. Then, the deepest thoughts exchanged, Some facets of lives forever changed. Eyes grow heavy, hearts grow light, A smile, then we bid goodnight.
We talked of anything under the sun - Sometimes quite serious, at others pure fun. Together, we helped each other heal Wounds we'd almost forgotten to feel.
Your farewell is still a fond memory Of laughter, then tears, both flowing freely. Once a close neighbour, you went away As I stayed back, duty-bound to stay. But once you left, your letters showed me How the word "soulmates" described us fully.
You might have left, yet it seems today That your soul ever closer to me does stray. They say, "Absence makes the heart grow fonder." And they're right - every week, our bond grows stronger.
Tonight you are home, and we speak with ease, With faith in a bond that will never cease. But then, you say you may leave permanently - 'Tis a blow too strong for me to take calmly. My heart aches as I feel a piece Of me leave with such seeming ease.
The talk goes on - we both decide Not to talk of the onrushing tide. The next ten years give our life shape and form; We know we have the strength to weather the storm.
An unbidden tear streaks from my eye. It's time for you to go: we say a final goodbye. Our painful past, we shall cast aside Our smiles, as ever, our pain shall hide. For you even, I shan't let myself pine. But shall always cherish you - true friend of mine!
I'd be grateful if someone could straighten out the quirks in this one, and provide an alternative title. Like it or not, do comment!
Cheers,
- Joy.
