In the verses written by,’ ‘in the verses by,’ or ‘in verses by’?
Should I say ‘in the verses written by’, ‘in the verses by,’ or ‘in verses by’? My choice is the third one only. Is it correct?
• What did they say about the sound devices used (in the verses written by, in the verses by, in verses by) well-known Russian poets?
If I rewrote the sentence as follows, is it not vague? The pronouns ‘they’ and ‘their’ are most likely to be interpreted as referring to the same persons, aren’t they?

• What did they say about the sound devices used (in the verses written by, in the verses by, in verses by) well-known Russian poets?

- You are asking what the commentators said about the Russian poets' sound devices I don't think it's likely that the commentators created verse about the sound devices, so I don't read it that way.
- But, if they did, you just need to reposition the possessive pronoun so that it comes after the commentators ...
