In the summer of ...

Hi,

Can one say 'In 2011 summer...' instead of 'In the summer of 2011...'?

Thanks.

I would say it's wrong. I'd accept in Summer 2011, though.

Thanks for your answer.

Does it make a difference if one uses'the' before '...summer 2011'?

People do say that too but I'm not sure whether the structure is correct or not. Sorry

We usually say things like sentence #1 (rather than the sentence #1), on platform 5, (rather than on the platform 5) so I'd be more inclined to say "summer 2011" than "the summer 2011".

You may ask for a second opinion though.
