Hi

Should I say

It is in the public interest that these facts are made known. OR

It is in the public's interest that these facts are made known.

I usually hear "it is in the interest of the public......"

Either way. I guess "public interest" is usual. By the way, an American would put, "It is in the public/public's interest that these facts be made known."
