I recall being told that "in the pipeline" can only be used for a series of things which are expected to become available soon, as in: "Their newest products are said to be in the pipeline". Can't we use this expression for singular things? For example:
- An improved version of the system is in the pipeline.
- Newer treatment for the disease is in the pipeline.
I realize it is a single system/treatment and not a whole lot of them, but can't we still use "in the pipeline"?
