How about "On behalf of father" ??

"In the name of the father" could be a word-for-word translation from portuguese: "Em nome do Pai".

I meant that In the name of the father is a word-for-word translation from Portuguese, it sounds odd to me, I'd propose on behalf of father or something like this. Maybe that film was using an out-of-date English, you know, both those languages, English or Portugue, came from Latin. That's all.
