In the middle of the show the presenter fell off the scene.

Good morning, everyone.

Let me have a few questions about the following sentence:

In the middle of the show the presenter fell off the scene.

1) What context spontaneously came to your mind when you have just read this sentence? Is there any where this sentence is correct?
2) For me, it was the theater, but I am not sure if 'scene' can mean 'stage' or rather it is just a bad translation from Polish (in Polish we have a similar word 'scena' which means 'stage').
I looked it up in the dictionary and neither Oxford not Cambridge show this meaning. The only place where I found it is wiktionary:
(#2) https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/scene#Noun
So, can 'scene' mean 'stage'?

Thanks for your help.
