In The Middle Of The Night...

In the middle of the night
I woke up with a start
There was nothing around
No one was in sight
I called out in fear
I ran down the alley
The silence of the night
Tore me apart to pieces
The mute voices disturbing
Solitude as never before
Suspense filled air
Pulling at my heart
Tugging at my soul.
In the darkness of the night
I missed a step or two
I stumbled into things
I crawled my way through
In search of someone or something
Just to get rid of anguish
And this constant fear
Just to confirm to myself
That I was still alive
That this was not the hell
I had heard of.

I like the tone and rhythm here, Anita:

'In the darkness of the night
I missed a step or two
I stumbled into things
I crawled my way through'

Especially 'I missed a step or two'.
