This was a deliberately confrontational work, which did nothing less than insult the sponsors of the exhibition, Absolut Vodka. As an anti-establishment gesture, it seems that Kaye’s piece was too close to the bone for the curators of the Los Angeles Biannual who demanded its immediate removal. Kaye’s interventionist gesture exposed the hypocrisies of a world that pretends disinterest but is in the last instance governed by private interest.
