In the future vs down the road

Are there any differences between "I'll go to the states in the future." and "I'll go to the states down the road"?
Thanks in advance!

" and "I'll go to the States down the road"? The main difference is that #2 is more casual and idiomatic. #1 is not wrong, but it sounds a little odd to me to use future tense and then simply add 'in the future'.

  • To my ear, more natural is eg I'll go to the States sometime in the future.
