In the front/back, on the front/back

Dear teachers,

As far as I know we say in the front/back of the car, taxi. But is it the same with train, bus, plane, tram, horse, bike?

E.g. In the front/back of the train, bus, horse, bike, plane.

Or

On the front of the train, bus, horse, bike, plane.

Which one is right?

Thanks beforehand

Regards

Ok! Thanks a lot:)

I have also come up to the following examples;

on the front/back of the envelope, magazine, letter...

at the front/back of the building, crowd, group of people...
