in the forefront of someone's mind

Hello,
I have heard both "at the back of someone's mind" and "in the forefront of someone's mind. Does it always have to be "in the forefront"? Can we only use "front"? "At/In the front of someone's mind"?

When I use it, which can't be too often, I'm sure I use forefront. Probably because I associate it with forehead. Emotion: smile
