in the first place, to his credit

To his credit, he has completed his graduation in the first place. Now, he can apply for a job. We have to wait one more year till we complete our graduation.

Please correct my sentences.

I believe we have discussed "to his credit" before in this forum. You use it to balance something negative, not simply say something postive. You would have to say something like "Although he failed nearly all his classes his first term, to his credit, he worked very hard the remainder of his time at school, and ended up graduated first in his class."
