In the evening or on the evening?

Hi

I normally say in the evening but I saw this sentence:

"on the evening of 27 August, I....."

Is this correct? would it be ok if I say "in" the evening of 27 August....?

Cheers ! Emotion: smile

On is correct, but it sounds more like a question a lawyer would ask a witness in court.

On is used because of the presence of of. You can read about on in expressions of time
