I am from Portugal, and some days ago I received a letter from Germany. The Letter end with xxx. I know that xxx means kisses, but I really want to know if the English speakers use the x's for friends, family or only for loved ones (like girlfriend or boyfriend).

Some people use *** more easily and often than other people. It's used for good friends and family, as well as for loved ones.

If a boy writes to a girl with ***, or vice-versa, it's an encouraging sign.
