which one is correct? why?

1) I heard the voice in the distance. Correct. It breaks no grammar or idiomatic rules.



2) I heard the voice in distance. The word 'distance' requires an article. It's not one of the few exceptions that don't, eg 'in school'.

3) I heard the voice from the distance. I wouldn't say 'the distance' is wrong, but you'd have to have mentioned the difference e
