'in the direct line'?

Hi,

Please have a look at this:

''The first category includes people who are in the direct line of generating revenues, margins, and demand as well as those who are in the direct line of production, delivering to the customer and dealing with customer complaints.''

Does 'in the direct line' here means 'directly in charge of'?

Many thanks,

Nessie.
