in the a.m.

Do we say, "The operation kicks off at eight in the a.m.?" I need to know if this is a way to use "in the a.m." even if it's substandard or even wrong. Thank you

" even if it's substandard or even wrong. I have occasionally heard it said casually and jocularly, but that is all; it is certainly not standard.
