In terms of weight

Would you say that this is natural? How would you have said the first sentence?

There are 3 people in the elevator in terms of weight. Only 3 people are allowed in the elevator. There are 2 people and 5 pièces of luggage. We might be overweight.

Thanks

I wrote in terms of weight because there aren't 3 people but 2 people and luggage, in terms of weight, there are 3 people. Do you know what I mean?

Two people and their luggage are the equivalent of three people.
