What may be the difference between "in the summer" and "in summer"? I thought that when you speak of a season in general you do not use the definite article, such as, "It is extremely hot in summer in Tokyo." But should it be "in the summer", instead of "in summer", or it's ok either way?
Thanks in advance,

Most people, I think, would say "in summer", but it wouldn't be wrong to say It's extremely hot in the summer in Tokyo. CJ
