In some countries, parents are choosing to teach children themselves at home instead of sending them to school. Do the advantages of homeschooling outwweigh the disadvantages?

Opinions are devided regarding whether parents should opt for homeschooling or not. While a multitude of people are of the opinion that this educational route are beneficial, I believe that its demerits are far weighter than the merits.

On the one hand, being home aducated can bring about numerous positive effects. Firstly, having been taught at home, kids can be protected from violence and bullying which are alarming issues in schools nowadays, thereby enhancing their both mental and physical well-being. Secondly, homeschooled children have opportunities to spend a large amount of time with their parents, thus the bonds between them are strengthened significantly. This is often not the case in traditional schooling especially boarding school because most of the time they have to study at school.

On the other hand, I personally contend that substantial disadvantages are more obvious because home educated children’s emotional development might be impeded. This is attributed to the dearth of interaction with classmates and teachers. Children therefore find it is difficult to obtain cooperation and communication skills. Futhermore, homeschoolers are less likely to face up to peer pressure which can play an important roles in facilitating the persuit of academic excellence. For example, a children learning in a group of friends are tend to have more motivation to study harder since they want to be better than other members of the group.

In conclusion, after weighing the pros and cons, I would say that the pitfalls of parents self-teach method are insurmountable, far exceeding the aforementioned plus points.
