In many parts of the world, homeownership is considered more beneficial than paying monthly rent for accommodation. This is due to various reasons and personally, I think it is rather a positive trend.
Having the rightful ownership of one's house has been the dream of many people. One explanation for this is people seem to always desire some sense of security in life. In Vietnam, especially the North part of the country, parents normally pass down this long-lived message to younger generations: 'settling should always come first, everything else will follow', meaning everyone should buy their own home as soon as possible to be secured and other successes will come their ways after. The wish to have a kind of tangible asset so that they can give to their children later as inheritance is another possibility. Finally, for those that own beautifully designed home, they can use it to leverage their status and position in life.
I strongly agree that this belief is a positive mindset and there are various reasons to explain for this. On a personal perspective, this goal of owning a house gives people something to strive for. For example, to be able to save enough for a down payment, they will need to work really hard to earn money. This attitude benefits not just one's personal achievement and development but the country's economy as well. On an economic perspective, the increase of prospective homeowners helps to a more exciting, active and bustling estate industry, creating more jobs for everyone.
In conclusion, I believe all the hard work to secure a house is worth it and this ideology should be encouraged.
